Company History
Before starting MassageBook, Mark Volkmann was a massage therapist. He learned firsthand the challenges that massage practices face, and cobbled together a system of paper and software that worked for him. However, he knew there had to be a better solution, and he committed to building it himself.
After years of planning, Mark launched MassageBook in 2013, the first software built by massage therapists, for massage therapists. Since then, MassageBook has grown rapidly, adding more features to meet the unique needs of massage therapists.
Now, MassageBook’s team continues to develop its industry-leading solution and has expanded to offer educational courses that ensure skilled massage practitioners and bodyworkers have the tools and skills they need to build thriving massage businesses.

Massage Therapy Foundation Fundraiser
MassageBook partnered with the Massage Therapy Foundation to match every donation made between May 9–17, 2026, up to $2,500. Massage Therapy Foundation funds the research that helps massage therapy get the recognition it deserves. This fundraiser allowed MassageBook to give back to the massage therapy community for which its software is built.
Launch of New Clinic Plan
In May 2026, MassageBook launched its new Clinic Tier plan for multi-staff practices. It offers unlimited staff seats, smarter scheduling, and upgraded reporting functionality to accommodate enterprise-level massage businesses. Additionally, it offers features such as:

- Smart room assignment for concurrent sessions and equipment-specific services

New Couples Massage Booking Experience
MassageBook has launched a new couples massage booking feature, allowing customers to book sessions in pairs. Couples massages require strict coordination across staff, rooms, and timing, and we’ve built our feature with this in mind. Clients simply book their preferred time, and MassageBook’s system automatically handles the details, including matching two massage therapists, reserving a couples massage room, and placing both appointments on the schedule together.
